Jawatan Kosong MUIM - Universiti Islam Malaysia (MUIM) or Kolej Islam Malaya was established on February 24, 1955 , with 55 students from all over the Federation of Malaya , including Singapore , Brunei, Sabah and Sarawak who have been successful in the Entrance Examination . Then the main course of the College have been prepared and approved by the Council. Opening Ceremony of the College , which is considered as the National Council was held on 8 April 1955. The day before the event, the Working Committee was replaced by the first Council of the College under the Constitution and the Commissioner Alsagoff was appointed the first chairman .
Funding for the establishment of KIM is a result of the contribution of the Muslim waqf of Malaya, Singapore , Sabah , Sarawak and Brunei Darussalam as well as donations to non-Muslims. Due to lack of funds for developing KIM , HRH Al - late Sultan Sir Hisamuddin Alam Shah Al -Haj has generously endowed the castle his Cabinet at the Royal City Palace Klang , Selangor Darul Ehsan and the lands around it as the site of KIM .
KIM emerged as an Institution of Higher Education -university based on the recognition given by the Muslim world center of higher learning such as the University of Al - Azhar , Egypt on January 20, 1961 , and several universities in the United Kingdom . It is an institution of higher education first before the existence of the University of Malaya .
