Jawatan Kosong LPPKN - Lembaga Penduduk dan Pembangunan Keluarga Negara - LPPKN or The National Population and Family Development Board, the NPFDB, was established in 1966 under the Population and Family Development Act 1966 (Act 352) under the purview of the Prime Minister’s Department. In the early years of its formation, the main focused of NPFDB’s activities were on the implementation of the family planning programmes throughout the country.
The Population and Family Development Act 1966 (Act 352), formerly known as the Family Planning Act 1966 (Act 42), had undergone several amendments and revisions since it was gazetted in 1966. The first amendment was made in 1976 whilst the second amendment was made in 1984. The second amendment led to the change of name of the act from Family Planning Act to the Population and Family Development Act. Accordingly, the name of NPFDB was changed from the then National Family Planning Board to the current National Population and Family Development Board. With the change of name, the role of NPFDB has been expanded from merely providing family planning services to cover a wider population and socio-economic development perspectives.
In 1994 and in line with the International Conference on Population and Development Programme of Action (ICPD-PoA), the NPFDB’s programmes have been revised along three thematic areas of concern that is population, family development and human reproduction.
On 13 June 2001, the Cabinet of Ministers agreed the new direction and approaches and NPFDB to be the lead agency in the areas of population, family development and human reproduction under the purview of the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development.
Act 352 was again amended in 2006 in line with the NPFDB’s new goals, roles, functions and responsibilities. This amendment seeks to allow the existing functions, powers and responsibilities are further clarified and strengthened and new provisions added covering the scopes of implementation and responsibilities entrusted to the NPFDB. The Act was gazetted on 8 February 2007.
NPFDB’s vision to creating strong families towards the realisation of a caring society, quality population and progressive Malaysian nation is a challenging task that requires strong commitments from all parties. Through various initiatives, NPFDB strives to achieve this vision by introducing dynamic and effective methods and approaches.
